Adirondack Shelters in MD -- Campground & RV Camping in Maryland

Adirondack Shelters provides backcountry camping near the northern edge of Catoctin Mountain Park in the Blue Ridge Province. The site features two three-sided wooden shelters set several hundred feet apart, accommodating up to five campers each with fire rings and a shared pit toilet. There is no vehicle access or potable water, requiring a three-mile uphill hike over rocky terrain to reach the camp. Situated within a 6,000-acre hardwood forest, the area connects to a 25-mile trail system, with scenic overlooks at Wolf Rock and historic sites like Camp Misty Mount nearby.

Getting there: Directions to the trailhead parking at Camp Round Meadow: From Thurmont MD, take Route 77 west 5 miles (8 km) to Foxville Road. Turn right and follow signs to Camp Round Meadow parking area.You cannot drive to the shelters. Hilly terrain and the forest canopy can prevent satellite signals from reaching your unit increasing the importance of a back-up strategy.
