Setting
Lucas Park Campground sits on the north side of Wilson Lake in the rolling mixed-grass prairie of the Smoky Hills. The park features 98 modern campsites along with a group site containing 15 electric and water hookups and a group shelter. Facilities include a boat ramp, fishing dock, and access to the 3-mile Rocktown Hiking Trail, which winds past 15- to 30-foot red sandstone formations. The lake provides habitat for stocked walleye and bass, while the nearby town of Lucas is noted for its local art attractions alongside neighbouring communities featuring limestone Post Rock architecture.
Getting there: From Interstate 70, north of Wilson, Kansas, take exit 206 to Highway 232 north. Continue for 9 miles and follow signs to the park, located on the left.
