Setting
Arrow Rock Campground sits along Melvern Lake on the Marais des Cygnes River at the eastern edge of the Kansas Flint Hills tallgrass prairie. Wooded hills border the south shore, though trees are sparse in the camping loops. The facility has 33 campsites—19 with electric and water hookups—plus vault and flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, a boat ramp, a dock, a fish cleaning station, and a playground. The 4-mile Tallgrass Heritage Trail starts in the campground, offering access to 18,000 surrounding acres used for hiking and hunting.
Getting there: From US-75, take the Olivet exit. Continue onto K-276 west for 1 mile, then turn north onto South Fairlawn Road and continue another mile. Turn west onto Arrow Rock Parkway and follow to the campground.
