Setting
Santa Fe Trail Campground sits along the shore of 3,310-acre Council Grove Lake in the rolling Flint Hills of Kansas. The shaded, grassy grounds offer 35 reservable campsites with electric hookups, including a 75-guest group area, supported by flush toilets. On-site facilities feature a boat ramp and access to the Pioneer Nature Trail. The lake accommodates boating, Saugeye fishing, and wildlife viewing. The town of Council Grove, two miles away, hosts seven Santa Fe National Historic Trail sites, and the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway starts nearby.
Getting there: From I-70, take Highway 177 south for 30 miles. Continue west across the dam road, then right onto City Lake Road. After a mile turn right into the campground entrance.
