Setting
Kit Carson Campground sits on the shore of the 3,310-acre Council Grove Lake in the Flint Hills region. The terrain consists of shaded grassy areas alongside a reservoir created by a 1964 dam. The campground features 11 reservable sites equipped with electric hookups, flush toilets, open recreational lawns, and an on-site boat ramp. Shoreline trails lead into surrounding woods, including the Pioneer Nature Trail, with 2,700 acres of nearby public hunting lands.
Getting there: From I-70, take Highway 177 south for 30 miles. Kit Carson entrance is located on the west side of the highway at the dam road.
