Setting
Canning Creek Cove Park sits on the shores of the 3,310-acre Council Grove Lake in the Flint Hills prairie region of eastern Kansas. The campground offers 43 reservable sites with electric hookups—including three group areas—along with flush toilets, shaded grassy spaces, and two boat ramps. The Pioneer Nature Trail winds along the lakeshore, and 2,700 acres of public land surround the reservoir for hunting. Located two miles southeast, the town of Council Grove features seven historic Santa Fe Trail sites near where the 1825 Osage treaty was signed.
Getting there: From I-70, take Highway 177 south for 30 miles. Turn west across Dam Road, then turn right on to City Lake Road and continue for 2 miles. Campground entrance road is on the right.
