Setting
Overlook Park is a day-use picnic area set on steep, wooded bluffs overlooking 7,000-acre Clinton Lake. Built by Congress in 1962 for flood control, the reservoir has a wooded shoreline along the Wakarusa Valley. The park features two reservable picnic shelters for up to 100 people, flush toilets, drinking water, and sports amenities including a sand volleyball court, softball field, horseshoe pit, tetherball pole, and playground. The North Shore trailhead starts in the park, providing access to hiking, biking, and equestrian trails that ring the lake. Lawrence is a few miles away.
Getting there: From Lawrence, Kansas, take Clinton Parkway/23rd Street west to the end of the road. Make a right turn onto E900 Road followed by the first left turn onto N1402 Road. Continue approximately one-fourth mile to park.
