South Sandusky Day Use Area is situated along the banks of Rend Lake in southern Illinois. The facility features two reservable picnic shelters with a 50-person capacity each, complete with tables, grills, drinking water, two restroom facilities, and a shower building. A public boat ramp, playground, and the main sand swimming beach on Rend Lake are all within walking distance. Visitors can pick up the 20-mile paved Rend Lake Bike Trail directly from the site or visit the nearby Blackberry Nature Trail and Rend Lake Marina.
Getting there: From I-57 take take exit 71 and turn west onto Route 14. Continue for 3 miles, then turn north on Rend City Road. The entrance is on the right after about 5 miles, just past the Rend Lake Dam.
