Setting
Gun Creek Campground sits on the eastern shore of the 20,633-acre Rend Lake in southern Illinois, set among oak, hickory, and maple woodlands. The facility offers 98 reservable campsites with electric hookups, fire pits, and picnic tables, served by flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and a playground. The adjacent day-use area includes a boat ramp and picnic shelter. Visitors use the lake for crappie fishing, boating, and swimming, with the paved Rend Lake Bike Trail, an archery complex, Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, and a golf course located nearby.
Getting there: From I-57 take exit 77 and turn west on Route 154. Turn left onto Gun Creek Trail/Larry Foster Parkway, then right onto Golf Course Road. Continue 1/2 mile to park entrance.
