Baumgartner Campground sits among ponderosa pines along the South Fork Boise River. Its main draw is Baumgartner Hot Springs, a 101-degree geothermal concrete soaking pool on-site, alongside a short interpretive nature trail and the historic John Baumgartner Gravesite. The campground features single, double, quad, and group campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and utility tables. Vault toilets and drinking water are available, and roads are paved. The river offers wild and stocked trout fishing, with nearby trails catering to hikers and off-road vehicles.

Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 10%. Overhead clearance here is posted at 16 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Jumbo Mountain stands 2,432 ft above the site, 2.4 miles east. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.4 miles off, a 31-site campground. 26 sit on the water -- most of them shaded. South Fork Boise River runs 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Ketchum, is 36 mi off.
