Setting

Some privacy

Bartoo Island features 24 individual campsites and one group site spread across a 219-acre island on Priest Lake, accessible only by boat. The primitive facilities include picnic tables and campfire rings, but there is no drinking water, and campers must bring their own portable toilets and pack out all trash. Visitors swim along the island beaches, fish for trout, and paddle into the 3.5-mile thoroughfare leading to the Upper Priest Lake Scenic Area. Nearby mainland options include the 8-mile Lakeshore Trail along the western shore.

Getting there: Campground is only reachable by boat. Travel north from Priest River, Idaho on State Highway 57 to various boat launches around the lake. To access the Kalispell Bay Boat Launch, travel on Highway 57 for 31 miles to Kalispell Bay Road. Turn east (right) until you reach West Lakeshore Road. Head south .5 miles to the boat launch.

  • Moderately separated here.
  • Camels Prairie stands 3,437 ft above the map pin, 5.3 miles east.
  • Mostly tent-only sites, with 25 boat-in sites and 25 on the water.
  • The Priest Lake shoreline is 1.2 mi off.
