Perched at 7,000 feet in the Boise Ridge Mountains near Bogus Basin, Shafer Butte offers walk-in tent campsites and two day-use group picnic areas set among Douglas fir and aspen trees. Sites are closely grouped with tent pads, picnic tables, and campfire rings, served by paved pathways and accessible vault restrooms, though no electricity is available. The 2-mile Mores Mountain Interpretive Trail starts directly within the campground, providing access to scenic views of Deer Point and the surrounding valley.

Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, dirt, pitching to 12%, 30% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Shafer Butte stands 900 ft above the site, 0.8 miles south. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, a 7-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites -- most of them shaded. Night skies measure Bortle 3 -- a dark rural sky. The nearest town, Robie Creek, is 8.6 mi off.

September normals 4165°F, 0.9″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
