U.S. Forest Service allows overnight stays only at the designated sites here.

Kirkham Campground sits at 4,000 feet elevation along the South Fork Payette River, with a scattered ponderosa pine landscape. Accessible single sites and a double site feature picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, and optional shade shelters, backed by paved spurs, vault toilets, drinking water, trash service, and a resident host. Staircases lead directly from the grounds down to Kirkham Hot Springs' riverside pools and steaming waterfalls. The river provides trout fishing and whitewater kayaking, while the 35-mile Kirkham Ridge Trail starts less than a quarter-mile away.

Road difficulty 1 of 5 -- an easy drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, paved, pitching to 2%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Banner Ridge stands 2,873 ft above the site, 2.6 miles southeast. South Fork Payette River runs 0.1 mi off. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 14-site campground. Most of them shaded. The nearest town, Robie Creek, is 37 mi off.

September normals 4479°F, 0.9″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
