Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, Deer Park Cabin sits in a ponderosa pine meadow at 4,400 feet elevation across the road from the North Fork Boise River. The rustic dry cabin sleeps six people using one futon and two bunk bed sets. Facilities include a hand-pumped potable water shed, outdoor vault toilet, picnic table, campfire ring, and a kitchen equipped with a propane stove, oven, refrigerator, and dry sink. Electricity is not available. The North Fork Boise River Trail starts directly behind the cabin, leading downstream through steep granite canyon walls.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Goat Mountain stands 3,277 ft above the site, 3.7 miles northeast. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- most of them shaded. North Fork Boise River runs 0.7 mi off. The nearest town, Robie Creek, is 36 mi off.
