Campground details
Setting
Chemeketan Campground sits among partially shaded lodgepole pines near the headwaters of the Salmon River, at the base of the Sawtooth Range. Reached by a dirt road that requires crossing a stream, the site features vault toilets, tables, and grills. The facility operates as a single large group site for up to 150 people, opening to individual first-come, first-served campers when unreserved. Anglers fish the adjacent river for rainbow and cutthroat trout. The Idaho Centennial Trail passes nearby, and Alturas, Perkins, Pettit, and Yellowbelly lakes lie a short distance away.
Getting there: From Stanley, Idaho, take Highway 75 south. Turn southwest off highway onto a dirt road located between mile markers 163 and 162. The campground is located 4 miles beyond the turnoff. Fording a stream is necessary to access the campground.
