Setting
Gill Point Recreation Area is a wooded day-use park set in a mixed pine and hardwood forest on the northern shore of J. Strom Thurmond Lake. Located 20 miles from Elberton, Georgia, the site features a single group picnic shelter that accommodates up to 24 people. Facilities include drinking water, flush toilets, a boat dock, and a boat ramp. Visitors use the park to launch powerboats, canoes, and kayaks into the 70,000-acre reservoir, or to fish for bass, crappie, and catfish along the shoreline.
