Setting

Little privacy

Chickamauga Battlefield Group Campground is a private facility restricted strictly to organized non-profit youth groups under adult supervision. Set within a 9,000-acre hardwood deciduous forest, the property offers flat, tree-sheltered tent sites. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, lantern poles, potable water spigots at select sites, vault toilets, and a first-come, first-serve amphitheater. The grounds sit 0.45 miles on foot from the visitor center, with access to 50 miles of battlefield hiking trails, paved roads for bicycling, and designated equestrian trails.

Getting there: From Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, turn right (south) onto Lafayette Road. Travel 1.5 miles and turn right onto Dyer Road. You will see Brotherton Cabin at this intersection. At the first stop sign, turn right onto Glenn-Kelly Road. Travel 0.5 miles, passing a triangular intersection on your left. Turn left at the next roadway, South Post. Enter through the gate, making sure to close it behind you. Drive down this road and the camping loop will be on your right. Campsites are located around this loop road and each site is marked with a numbered post.

  • Little separation from through roads or other sites here, a 9-site campground with the nearest through road 0.2 miles off.
  • Sits on broad, near-level ground.
  • Estimated night sky: Bortle 5, a rural sky with a glow on the horizon.
  • A group campground.
