Setting
Matterhorn Campground is located at 8,500 feet along the San Juan Skyway, seven miles from Telluride. Outer campsites are wooded while inner sites are open, including walk-to tent sites with views of the surrounding mountains. The facility includes single-family sites—some with full RV hookups—plus flush and vault toilets, drinking water, showers, and trash collection. The 8.4-mile Galloping Goose Trail connects directly to the site for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Lizard Head Wilderness is three miles away, and Telluride offers a free mountain gondola.
Getting there: From Telluride, travel approximately 7 miles south on Highway 145. Watch for campground signs; the turn off from the road is on the left.
