Setting
Difficult Campground sits 5 miles southeast of Aspen along the banks of the Roaring Fork River in the White River National Forest. The single reservable group site features hardened RV and vehicle parking, five picnic tables, a group fire ring, a pedestal grill, and a food locker. There are no electrical hookups, but drinking water is available from spigots in the main campground. The surrounding forest includes aspen, cottonwood, pine, fir, scrub oak, and spruce. Outdoor recreation includes fly fishing for trout and whitewater rafting on the river, alongside nearby hiking trails.
Getting there: 665 Difficult Campground Rd. Aspen CO 816511 Take Highway 82 for 5 miles southeast of Aspen, Colorado. Look for USFSDifficult Campground sign on the right, past Mile Marker 45.
