Setting
Buffalo Springs Campground sits at 9,000 feet on a rolling hillside in the San Isabel National Forest, surrounded by aspen, spruce, and mixed conifers. The widely spaced campsites have dirt and rocky parking aprons that fit trailers up to 30 feet, accompanied by picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. On-site recreation includes a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. Visitors come for mountain views, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing, with trout fishing nearby at Antero Reservoir.
Getting there: From Fairplay, take Highway 285 south for about 12.5 miles, just 3 miles past County Road 22 turnoff. Turn right onto Forest Road 431 and continue one mile to campground.
