Setting
Aspen Campground sits at 9,900 feet elevation in a valley along Jefferson Creek, shaded by aspen and spruce trees. The single-loop layout features gravel parking aprons, picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and hand-pumped drinking water. Campers come for direct access to trout fishing in the creek and nearby Jefferson Lake, a 182-acre high-alpine lake with a boat ramp for no-wake boating. Trailheads for the 471-mile Colorado Trail and the 11-mile West Jefferson Loop Trail are located close by.
Getting there: From Fairplay, take Highway 285 north to Jefferson, then turn left on County road 35. Travel approximately 2 miles and turn right on County Road 37. Travel approximately 2.5 miles to the Aspen Campground.
