East Portal Campground in CO -- Campground & RV Camping in Colorado

East Portal Campground sits along the Gunnison River at the bottom of the canyon within Curecanti National Recreation Area, accessible via East Portal Road through Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Shaded by box elder trees at an elevation of 6,526 feet, the small campground features 15 sites, including 10 walk-in tent sites and 5 vehicle-accessible sites. Amenities include vault toilets, seasonal drinking water, trash service, and bear-resistant food storage boxes, with each site equipped with a picnic table, fire pit, and grill. The site is closed in winter.

Getting there: After entering Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, turn right on East Portal Rd and follow it for 5.5 miles (8.7 km). NOTE: East Portal Campground is closed in winter, when the Bureau of Reclamation closes the East Portal Road.
