3.5 of the 18 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly gravel, with 7.5 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~120 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 10 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. A cattle guard 6.1 miles in.
Ivy Creek runs 0.1 mi off. Fisher Mountain stands 3,664 ft above the site, 4.0 miles southeast. Travellers have camped along here. The nearest town, Pagosa Springs, is 29 mi off.
