Campground details
Setting
Located at an elevation of 8,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains, Vallecito Campground sits along Vallecito Creek next to the Weminuche Wilderness. Set among ponderosa pine, aspen, and gambel oak, the campground features 80 single-family sites—some with electric hookups—equipped with tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. Day-use picnic sites line the creek. The Vallecito Creek Trail begins at the entrance, providing foot and equestrian access into the wilderness. Facilities include hitching racks and a horse loading ramp, though overnight livestock camping is prohibited.
Getting there: From the western side of the reservoir, on County Road 501, pass through the community of Vallecito. Turn north on County Road 500 and drive about 3 miles to the campground.
