Target Tree Campground in CO -- Campground & RV Camping in Colorado

Target Tree Campground sits at 7,643 feet on a south-facing, Ponderosa pine and Gambel oak hillside overlooking Thompson Park, seven miles east of Mancos off Highway 160. Named for the scarred trees left by Ute Indians who harvested bark and practiced marksmanship here, the facility includes 28 sites, 17 of which are barrier-free, along with three horse corrals. Hikers can access the 3.4-mile Narrow Gauge Trail directly from the grounds. Mesa Verde National Park is less than two hours away, and the campground provides an interpretive trail to a historic target tree.

All 1 miles in are maintained for passenger cars. Gravel the whole way in (1 miles). Overhead clearance here is posted at 15 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit.

Crowded here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, a 20-site campground. Cottonwood Creek runs 0.3 mi off. Caviness Mountain stands 2,515 ft above the site, 2.8 miles northeast. Most of them shaded. The nearest town, Mancos, is 5.8 mi off.
