Setting
Chris Park is located 18 miles north of Durango in southwestern Colorado. Set in a flat, open area shaded by ponderosa pines, the facility features three group sites. Sites 1 and 2 hold up to 75 people each, while Site 3 holds up to 150 people and adds a volleyball court, electric picnic shelter, and grills. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. The late 1800s Rico-to-Rockwood Wagon Road crosses the site. Nearby trailheads include Forebay and Purgatory Flats, with boating, canoeing, and fishing docks less than two miles away at Haviland Lake.
Getting there: From Durango, travel north on Highway 550 for about 18 miles to the campground. Turn at Haviland Lake sign, continue for a half-mile, then turn right at the intersection.
