State Forest State Park encompasses 70,932 acres of forest, jagged peaks, and alpine lakes near Walden in the northern mountains. With 228 campsites and 136 miles of trails, it traverses lodgepole pine and alpine tundra. North Michigan Reservoir offers boating with ramps on the north shore; Ranger Lakes permits foot access only. The park is known as Colorado's moose-viewing capital, with populations of moose, mule deer, river otters, and diverse birds throughout the subalpine landscape. A seasonal visitor center serves the park.
