Setting
East Elk Group Campsite is situated at 7,800 feet elevation along East Elk Creek, just off Blue Mesa Reservoir in Curecanti National Recreation Area. Designed for groups of 9 to 50 people, this site provides access to calm creek waters for canoeing and fishing away from main reservoir traffic. The surrounding area features mountain views and semi-arid terrain. The campsite sits adjacent to the Cebolla Basin windsurfing zone, with the Elk Creek boat ramp and watercraft inspection station located less than a mile away. Hikers can access the nearby Dillon Pinnacles Trail.
Getting there: East Elk Creek Group campground is located off of US Hwy 50 between Gunnison and Montrose, on the north side of the highway approximately 1/2 mile (.8 km) west of Elk Creek.
