Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area stretches 148 miles along the Arkansas River from Leadville to Pueblo Reservoir across 6,193 acres in Chaffee, Fremont, Lake, and Pueblo counties. The river descends over 4,650 feet elevation through the area, creating diverse whitewater rapids from Class II to Class V. The recreation area supports fishing, hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking, with access to about six established campgrounds and Browns Canyon National Monument.
