Setting
Little Mattie Campground sits at 7,800 feet elevation on the shores of Ruedi Reservoir in the White River National Forest. The facility has 19 standard sites for tents and RVs up to 30 feet, outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, bear boxes, vault toilets, and drinking water, but no hookups. Campers have direct access to reservoir boating and swimming, the 8-mile Ruedi Trail climbing Red Mountain, and Gold Medal trout fishing on the adjacent Fryingpan River below the dam.
Getting there: Take I-70 west of Denver to Glenwood Springs Exit 116, Highway 82 to Basalt. At Basalt, take Frying Pan Road 15 miles to the Ruedi Complex Entrance.
