Setting
Rampart Range Recreation Area offers designated dispersed camping in numbered, fee-required sites set around the Devils Head Fire Lookout Tower. This site provides access to over 300 miles of motorized OHV trails for vehicles under 50 inches wide, as well as hiking routes and local climbing areas. A trail leads to the meadow beneath the active U.S. Forest Service lookout tower. No drinking water is available on site, so bring your own. Facilities consist of trailhead vault toilets and port-a-potties. Pack out all trash.
- Little separation from through roads or other sites here, a 100-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
- Flat ground is scarce: under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
- A pond lies 0.7 mi off.
- Estimated night sky: Bortle 3, a dark rural sky.
