Setting
Monarch Park Campground sits at an elevation of 10,500 feet at the base of Monarch Ridge, with campsites running alongside a creek and the South Fork Arkansas River. Facilities include hand-pump drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables, and campfire rings, with firewood sold on-site. The campground lacks electrical or sewer hookups. Visitors use the site to fish for brook trout in the nearby beaver ponds and river, or to hike surrounding routes such as the Continental Divide Trail, Waterdog Lakes, Monarch Crest Trail, and Boss Lakes trails.
Getting there: From Poncha Springs, travel west on Highway 50 for about 15 miles, then turn left on County Road 231 and drive south to the Monarch Park Campground.
