3.2 of the 11.5 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Dirt the whole way in (11.5 miles). Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~110 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 6 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. Water crossings 4.1, 4.3 and 8.8 miles in.
Marmot Peak stands 2,515 ft above the site, 1.8 miles east. A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. Private here -- the nearest through road is 1.4 miles off. The nearest town, Buena Vista, is 7.0 mi off.
