Ute Campground sits at the base of Haystack Mountain along the Southern Ute Reservation border, directly across Highway 160 from Chimney Rock National Monument. The terrain features open ponderosa pine, oak, and juniper forest with 21 individual campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and extra grills, plus a group area for up to 32 people. Facilities include vault toilets and a pressurized drinking water station. The location provides sole access to Forest Service land on Haystack Mountain and sits near the Turkey Springs and Piedra River trail systems.

All 0.8 miles in are maintained for passenger cars. Gravel the whole way in (0.8 miles).

Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, a 22-site campground. Devil Mountain stands 3,095 ft above the site, 4.7 miles north. Devil Creek runs 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Pagosa Springs, is 14 mi off.
