Pinon Flats Campground sits at 8,175 feet among pinon pines and sagebrush at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains inside Great Sand Dunes National Park. The facility offers 88 small, unlevel campsites situated near the dunefield and Medano Creek. On-site amenities include access to nearby visitor center exhibits, ranger programs, and hiking routes like the Mosca Pass Trail. The layout reflects historic Mission 66 regional modernism, providing close access to high-altitude mountain trails, sand sledding, and creek splashing.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Overhead clearance here is posted at 10 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit.
