Setting
Crane Flat Campground sits at 6,200 feet elevation in Yosemite National Park, 17 miles from Yosemite Valley. The grounds are forested with sugar pine, red fir, lodgepole pine, Jeffrey pine, and western juniper near open meadows. The campground offers paved roads and parking pads for tents and RVs, flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers. Restrooms have no electric lights. The site is located between the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of Giant Sequoias, which are reached via 2.5 to 3-mile roundtrip hikes. A gas station and general store are nearby.
Getting there: Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Crane Flat Campground is located 8 miles from the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station (Hwy 120 from the west), and is 17 miles (30 minutes) northwest of Yosemite Valley.
