Limestone Campground sits at 3,500 feet elevation along the Upper Kern River in Sequoia National Forest, 16 miles north of Kernville. Surrounded by oak, gray pine, cottonwoods, and willows along steep canyon walls, the facility features 19 paved sites, picnic areas, and vault toilets. The river provides access for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Day trips from the site lead to nearby giant sequoia groves, waterfalls such as Salmon Creek Falls and Grizzly Falls, and the Trail of 100 Giants.
All 0.2 miles in are maintained for passenger-car comfort. Paved the whole way in (0.2 miles). Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Sherman Peak stands 6,164 ft above the site, 5.8 miles northeast. Kern River runs 0.1 mi off. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 19-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites -- most of them shaded. The nearest town, Wofford Heights, is 17 mi off.
