Designated sites only

National Park Service allows overnight stays only at the designated sites here.

Situated at 7,500 feet in the Mineral King area of Sequoia National Park, Atwell Mill Campground offers 21 primitive sites along the East Fork of the Kaweah River. Set within a former logging site in a giant sequoia grove, the campground features pit toilets but has no flush toilets, sinks, or hookups. The terrain is accessible via a winding, unpaved road, making the site unsuitable for RVs and trailers. On-site access points connect directly to backcountry hiking routes like the Atwell-Hockett Trail, leading to alpine lakes and high-elevation mountain passes.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Paradise Peak stands 2,797 ft above the site, 1.9 miles northwest. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 22-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites. East Fork Kaweah River runs 0.6 mi off. The nearest town, Three Rivers, is 13 mi off.

September normals 4773°F, 0.3″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
