Setting
Hayward Flat sits at 2,370 feet on Trinity Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, shaded by ponderosa pines and Douglas firs. Historic placer mining relics with interpretive signs are spread throughout the grounds. The campground features 98 family sites across five loops, each with a paved spur, picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, and an outdoor amphitheater. The Dogwood and Elderberry loops offer direct lake views and boat mooring, with a public boat ramp and marina three miles away.
Getting there: From Redding, CA: Go west on Highway 299 to Weaverville, then north on Highway 3 for 15 miles. Turn right at Hayward sign and travel approximately 2 miles to campground entrance.
