Black Rock Campground offers six year-round, primitive dispersed sites set in the Oak Woodlands along Mill Creek on the northeast edge of the Ishi Wilderness. Each campsite is furnished with a picnic table and a grill. Visitors come to hike along Mill Creek and through the Ishi Wilderness, or fish in nearby Mill and Deer Creeks. The camp is accessed via Ponderosa Way, a dirt road not recommended for RVs.
Road difficulty 4 of 5 -- a difficult drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 16%, 100% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
