Turlock Lake State Recreation Area spans rolling foothills of eastern Stanislaus County, 25 miles east of Modesto. The 60-site campground sits on the shady south bank of the Tuolumne River about a mile from a lake with 26 miles of shoreline. Native oak and cottonwood frame the riverside setting. Sites include tent and RV camping with restrooms, showers, drinking water, and boat ramps. Fishing, swimming, boating, and water skiing are popular activities. The area preserves native plant life from the San Joaquin Valley and visible gold mining relics.
