Sugarloaf Ridge State Park spans 4,020 acres across the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa counties. The park features Bald Mountain (2,729 ft) with expansive views, rugged terrain with two major peaks, and Sonoma Creek's dramatic 25-foot waterfall. Twenty-five miles of hiking trails range from short walks to strenuous climbs, with access for horseback riding and mountain biking. Douglas firs, oaks, and manzanita blanket the slopes; deer, black bears, mountain lions, and bobcats inhabit the backcountry. The volunteer-run Robert Ferguson Observatory offers stargazing opportunities. Camping and picnicking facilities are available.
