Payne Springs Campground sits in the Medicine Lake Highlands, adjacent to the Modoc Volcanic Scenic Byway and near Lava Beds National Monument, in the Doublehead Ranger District of Modoc National Forest. One pit toilet available; no potable water—bring adequate supply for drinking, cooking, washing, and fire safety. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Free. Open early July to late October. Camping limit 14 days. Pack out all trash and waste.
