Setting
Set in a Douglas-fir and hardwood forest beside the Wild and Scenic California Salmon River, this campground offers 12 single sites with picnic tables and fire rings, gravel parking, and a vault toilet. There is no running water or electrical hookups. Historic mining remnants and old homestead fruit trees dot the landscape. A 4x4 boat access route leads through the grounds to the river, a central hub for early spring-to-summer whitewater rafting, kayaking, swimming, and hiking.
Getting there: Located on Salmon River Road 14 miles east of Highway 96, at the 900 foot elevation.
