Setting
Union Flat Campground sits along the Yuba Donner Scenic Byway (Highway 49) on the north bank of the North Yuba River. Shaded by pine, fir, maple, and oak trees, the campground features single-family sites and one double site, including tent-only spots, separated from the river by a historic stone gold-dredging wall. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets located on site. The adjacent river provides swimming, kayaking, and trout fishing, while historic mining towns like Downieville and Sierra City sit just down the highway.
Getting there: From Downieville, take Highway 49 north about 6 miles. The campground is on the right side of the highway.
