Setting
Rocky Rest Campground sits on the north bank of the North Yuba River along Highway 49 near Downieville. Shaded by Douglas fir, pine, and oak, the property features a small rocky beach and swimming hole on the water's edge. Single-family sites include picnic tables and campfire rings, with drinking water and vault toilets provided. The 7.5-mile North Yuba Trail starts directly on site for hiking and biking. The river accommodates seasonal rafting, kayaking, floating, and trout fishing, while regional singletrack trails and historic gold rush towns are a short drive away.
Getting there: From Downieville, take Highway 49 south for about 11 miles. The campground is on the left side of the highway. From Nevada City, take Highway 49 north for 31 miles. The campground is on the right side of the highway.
