Lakes Basin Campground sits at 6,445 feet along Gray Eagle Creek among fir and aspen trees, built within an old mining settlement with historic stonework. The facility offers single-family sites, one double site, and a tent-only group site, all equipped with fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. Vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are available. The site connects directly to over 30 miles of trails, including the 1-mile Grassy Lakes Trail and routes to the Pacific Crest Trail. Nearby Gold Lake features a boat ramp and day-use launch for trout and Mackinaw fishing.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
The Damalusung Lake shoreline is 0.2 mi off. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, a 25-site campground. Sierra Buttes stands 1,782 ft above the site, 5.1 miles south. The nearest town, Portola, is 15 mi off.
