Setting
Sheep Camp Primitive Campground is a walk-in, tent-only facility set under ponderosa pines and firs in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Located 25 feet from a tight parking area where trailers and RVs are prohibited, the four sites overlook Brandy Creek. Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit with barbecue grill, lamp pole, and bear-resistant storage locker. The camp offers one vault toilet but lacks drinking water and electricity. Trails lead to local waterfalls and up Shasta Bally Mountain, while Brandy Creek Beach sits 3.5 miles south on 3,200-acre Whiskeytown Lake.
Getting there: From Redding, CA, drive 10 miles west on Highway 299. Turn left on Kennedy Memorial Drive and follow it for 5.4 miles to Brandy Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brandy Creek Road for 2.4 miles to Shasta Bally Road. Turn right on Shasta Bally Road and follow it for .4 mile to the campground.
