Horse Camp Primitive Campground in CA -- Campground & RV Camping in California

Horse Camp is located in the southeast section of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, lightly shaded by foothill pines. It is the park's only campground equipped for equestrian use, though non-equestrian campers share the space. The site features two individual campsites and an overflow parking area that accommodates RVs and horse trailers. Sites lack corrals or hitching posts, requiring horses to be high-lined or tethered to trailers. Amenities include picnic tables, bear-resistant lockers, fire pits, a shared vault toilet, and a hand pump for potable water when available.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Overhead clearance here is posted at 20 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit.

Kanaka Peak stands 1,552 ft above the site, 1.5 miles southwest. Clear Creek runs 0.2 mi off. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 2-site campground. Most of them shaded. Night skies measure Bortle 2 -- true dark-sky territory. The nearest town, Shasta, is 2.9 mi off.
