Setting
Perched on a hilltop covered in oak and manzanita, Hirz Cabin overlooks the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom structure sleeps six in beds, with room for air mattresses, and features a full kitchen, dining area, large outdoor deck, and laundry facilities. Electricity is powered by solar panels for light and fans, supported by scheduled daily generator runs; there is no air conditioning. The site includes parking for four cars and one towed boat. A boat launch and the two-mile Hirz Bay Trail sit one mile away.
Getting there: From Redding, CA, remain on I-5 to Gilman Road. (From the north, take Salt Creek exit to Gilman Road). Take Gilman Road east for 11 miles to entrance of Hirz Bay.
